LED Bulbs Help Headlights Stay Cool

Traditional headlight bulbs have used halogen technology. Halogen bulbs are very bright and sturdy compared to incandescent bulbs and are relatively inexpensive for the amount of illumination they provide. However recent advances in LED bulb technology has led to the majority of newer vehicles coming equipped with LED's. While LED bulbs do have many advantages, there are some drawbacks to consider as well.

One of the biggest advantages of LED's is efficiency and lifespan. LED's use much less energy to produce the same amount of brightness as halogen bulbs and a lot of this is due to the drastically different amounts of heat each bulb produces, with LED's being almost cool to the touch compared to halogen bulbs which can actually burn you. LED also has very long-life spans, with some rated to last upwards of a decade or longer. LED's do come with an increased cost, however. Usually, they are multiple times the price of equally bright halogens.

Here at Dublin Ford Lincoln, we can go into detail about the pros and cons of the two bulb types, and help you determine if your vehicle is able to use LED bulbs. Reach out to our expert service team today to schedule your headlight consultation.
